The SHORE project is funded by the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme of the European Union. Its objective is to serve as a central platform for enhancing ocean awareness across various societal segments, including schools, scientists, policymakers, and the general public.
At EUnexus, we are proud to be at the forefront of the Horizon SHORE Project, an ambitious initiative dedicated to enhancing ocean awareness across diverse societal sectors. This project brings together 14 primary partners and seven associated entities in a collaborative effort spanning 36 months, to create a sustainable impact on how we understand and interact with our oceans.
Our Role in The SHORE Project
EUnexus has been instrumental in leading three key seminars as part of the SHORE program, specifically focusing on integrating Estonian schools and educators into this transformative journey. These seminars are a part of our commitment to:
- Linking Research and Education: We facilitate the professional growth of educators by establishing a connection between current oceanic research and educational practices. This initiative is crucial in developing the next generation of change-makers, equipped with knowledge and passion for lifelong learning about our oceans.
- Enhancing Ocean Literacy in Schools: In collaboration with the Network of European Blue Schools and the EU4Ocean coalition, we aim to broaden the understanding of ocean and water sciences in primary and secondary education. Our seminars have focused on introducing innovative teaching materials and methods, tailored to resonate with the local cultural and regional nuances of Estonian schools.
- Promoting Open Schooling Approaches: The seminars included interactive sessions on developing and using training materials that align with environmental sciences and other study programs. These resources are designed to engage students actively, fostering a deeper connection with oceanic studies.
- Building a Community of Practice: We believe in the power of collective wisdom and shared practices. The seminars served as a platform for educators to exchange ideas, experiences, and methodologies, strengthening the community of ocean literacy advocates.
- Raising Awareness through School Events: Our efforts extend to organizing and supporting school events that spotlight ocean-related topics, enhancing awareness and understanding among students and the broader community.
